VNC Connection Options
The VNC Connection Options section allows you to set your defaults for the VNC options.
Table 1: UltraVNC Connection Options
Option | Description |
No Toolbar* |
Hides the toolbar on the technician's side of the VNC connection, when enabled. Ultra VNC property |
No Status* |
Hides the VNC Status icon on the remote's desktop. This option should be enabled to hide VNC from the remote. Ultra VNC property. |
AutoScale |
When enabled, the autoscale option will make the entire desktop show in the VNC window no matter what size the window is. This option is not 100% stable and may sometimes cause the VNC to crash the connection. |
Swap Mouse |
Swaps the mouse buttons for left-handed mouse users. |
Shared Connection |
When enabled, this will not disconnect a previous VNC session but join it and the two connections will share the desktop. |
Clipboard Enable |
An Ultra VNC bug on some operating systems will cause VNC to close when using the clipboard. This allows you to enable or disable the clipboard if you are experiencing VNC shutdowns. |
Color Depth |
When enabled, this helps set the speed of the VNC connection and the amount of bandwidth consumed during the connection. Set it to 64* for the best looking and fastest connection. 256 color mode looks better but uses 2x the bandwidth. 8 color is a very limited but true direct color system and will be slower than 4 but will look slightly better, 4* color mode looks bad but is very fast. 2* color is the fastest but is in monochrome. |
Encoding |
The fastest encoding is tight. It uses the least amount of bandwidth and has a fairly good response time. ZRLE and ZLIB have been reported to be very fast when there is plenty of bandwidth available. |
Quality |
Controls the quality of the image. The lower the number, the image quality is better but slower connection. The higher the number, the faster the connection but a lower quality image. |
Compression |
Controls the compression level. The higher the number the more compression, which means higher CPU usage but less bandwidth. |
NOTE: An asterisk * next to the field name indicates that this option is only supported by Ultra VNC. |
Tunnel Configuration
This section contains various properties related to the tunnel configuration. These settings should not be changed unless directed by LabTech support.
Table 2: Tunnel Configuration Options
Option | Description |
Public Mediator |
The mediator to use. Default value is stun.labtechsoftware.com. If you change from the default, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. This will default to your redirector address if you are not using port 70, 8000, 8080 as the redirector port. |
Tunnel Start Port |
Used to fix the port(s) the tunnels use at both the agent and Control Center sides. For the Control Center, set to x (where x=port) and it will use that port. Default value is 40000. For agents, set SOFTWARE\LabTech\Service\TunnelPort=x (where x=port). Would need to be allowed OUTBOUND/INBOUND at the firewall. Example: You can control the source port LabTech uses for all tunnels. Set Tunnel Start Port to 40000, where 40000 is the starting port to use and then set Tunnel Port Count to 1000, where 1000 is the amount of ports to share. If you change from the default, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. Remember to use the source port in the firewall rules and not the destination port as this will be completely random. |
Tunnel Port Count |
Used to utilize random range of ports for the tunnels. Default value is 1000. For the Control Center, set to x (where x=the range of ports). For example, if set to 1000, the system will pick a random port from the value in TunnelStartPort thru (TunnelStartPort+TunnelPortCount). If you change from the default, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. For agents, set SOFTWARE\LabTech\Service\TunnelStartPort=x (where x=the range of ports). Would need to be allowed OUTBOUND/INBOUND at the firewall. |
Tunnel MTU |
Maximum MTU. Ensures the ability to cross the various Internet routers. Default value is 1400. If you change from the default, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. |
Tunnel Inactivity |
Tunnels will close after this amount of inactivity if there are no active redirectors. Default value is 180 seconds. If you change from the default value, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. |
Tunnel Encryption |
Encrypts the data. Default value is AES 128. Options are AES 128, AES 256 and No Encryption. Disabling will speed up a tunnel but leaves the data vulnerable. This is NOT recommended. If you change from the default value, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. |
Tunnel UPNP |
Tells the router to open the port they're listening on and close when complete. Disabling is only recommended if you are having issues with bad routers. Enabled by default. If you change from the default value, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. |
Tunnel Threading |
Threading turns off threading internally in the tunnel. Disabling may make the tunnel more stable but will be slower. Enabled by default. If you change from the default value, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. It is recommended to not change these settings unless directed to do so by LabTech Support. |
Agent Connect Test |
Disabled by default. Can be enabled with no ill effect. It tests the tunnel from the agent to see if data can actually pass through before it says it is connected. This can help get tunnels established when they connect but don't work. |
Fast TCP Mode |
Disabled by default. If you are always using the TCP redirector, because your router will not support the tunnels, this option will speed up the connection by 10-15 seconds. |
Basic Redir Bypass Tunnel |
If enabled and tunnels are disabled it will not create a tunnel. If enabled and tunnels enabled, basic redirectors (VNC, RDP, etc.) will bypass the tunnel and have a fast connection; HTTP will continue to create a tunnel. |
Tunnels Disable |
Select this to turn off all tunnels and default to the [Control] click to use TCP redirector. If you change from the default value, click Save Tunnel Config to save any changes. Disabled by default. |
Enable Tunnel Commands |
If enabled, a tunnel is created when a command is run and will run instantly allowing for faster results. |
Database Agent Settings
If any changes are made to the default database agent settings, click the Save DB Agent Config to save your changes.
Table 3: Database Agent Settings
Option | Description |
Max Running Scripts |
This value indicates the maximum number of scripts running at one time. This value is limited only by the available resources to the LabTech server, bandwidth, CPU and memory. A large system may set this value over 2000. In most cases, it can be safely set to 500. Default value is 250. |
Scripts per Batch |
This value indicates how many scripts will start every 9 second interval. For large systems, this may be as high as 50. Default value is 5. |
Script Checkin Time/ Script Checkin Time Extra |
Default value is 15 seconds (recommended default). Forces the agent to check-in at the Script Checkin Time value (15 seconds) to check for additional commands. If the queue is empty, it will then wait the Script Checkin Time Extra value (30 seconds) to ensure it has received all of its commands. If there is nothing after 30 seconds, it assumes there are no other commands waiting to be executed so the agent can check in at its normally scheduled time. If there are multiple commands, all actions will be processed before the checkin time/checkin time extra begins. It is not recommended to change the default settings; however, if you do the Script Checkin Time value should be set lower to increase the script engine speed time and the Script Checkin Time Extra should be increased to ensure all commands have been received. |
Nightly Backup Password |
The password used for the nightly .zip backup. |
Backup Compression |
Default value is 9 (no compression). The lower the number, the higher the compression. CPU usage will increase if the default value is changed. |
Backup to Program Files |
Enabled by default. When enabled, backs up to %Program Files(x86)%\LabTech\Backup by default. If unchecked, there must be a second drive named LTBackup, and then the backups will be saved in this location. |
Active Directory LDAP Account Sync
LDAP Account Sync will sync the password in LabTech to the Active Directory when you log into the Control Center over HTTP. If you have created groups in Active Directory that match the user classes, the user will be members of those groups.
Table 4: Active Directory LDAP Account Sync
Option | Description |
Enabled LDAP Account Sync |
If enabled, allows sign on LDAP and LabTech. It will attempt to connect to LDAP when logging in. If misconfigured, log in will be delayed. If account name is same in Active Directory, will change the LabTech password of the user to the one in Active Directory. |
Domain |
If on the computer that is part of the domain, click Get LDAP Config button and field will automatically populate with the correct domain information. Otherwise, enter the domain manually (e.g., MyDomain.corp.net). |
Full LDAP Path |
Same as above. If entering manually, enter the full LDAP path.(For example if your domain is MyDomain.corp.net, then ‘LDAP://server01.mydomain.corp.net/dc=mydomain,dc=corp,dc=net’ or if machine is local to the domain and enrolled ‘LDAP://dc=mydomain,dc=corp,dc=net’ |
Create AD Groups |
LabTech will compare its user classes with the groups in Active Directory. If these user classes do not exist, it will prompt you to create a group based on the user class. Additionally, for the logged in user it will change their password and check to see if they are a member of group. If they are not, will add them to group. If the logged in user is not a member of any LabTech user class, nothing will change for the user. |
Ticket Priorities
Each ticket priority has a 'friendly name' associated with it. These 'friendly names' can be edited. 0 is the lowest priority and 19 is the highest. If desired, make the necessary changes, pressing [Enter] after each change. Reload the Control Center for all of the changes to take effect.
NOTE: If you do not press [Enter] after each change, the friendly name will revert back to its original state when you close the Control Center. |
